Resident Population
By the end of 2024, Jiangsu’s resident population was 85.26 million, remaining consistent with that of the previous year. Among the resident population, 43.21 million were men and 42.05 million women; 11.1 million people aged 0-14, 58.22 million aged 15-64, and 15.94 million aged 65 and above. The annual birth rate was 5.0‰, mortality rate 7.5‰, and natural population growth rate -2.5‰. New-type urbanization advanced steadily. By the year-end, 75.5% of the resident population lived in urban areas, up by 0.5 percentage points over the previous year.
Administrative Division
As of December 31, 2024, Jiangsu was home to 13 prefecture-level cities, 95 counties (19 counties, 21 county-level cities, and 55 districts), 718 towns and townships (17 townships and 701 towns), and 519 sub-districts. Kunshan City, Taixing City and Shuyang County were under direct jurisdiction of the provincial government in a pilot administrative program.
