Resident Population

By the end of 2025, Jiangsu’s resident population was 85.18 million, among which 43.16 million were male and 42.02 million female; 10.55 million people aged 0-14, 58.42 million aged 15-64, and 16.21 million aged 65 and above. The annual birth rate was 4.2‰, and the mortality rate 7.8‰. New-type urbanization advanced steadily. By the year-end, 76.2% of the resident population lived in urban areas, up by 0.7 percentage point over the previous year.

Administrative Division

As of December 31, 2025, Jiangsu was home to 13 prefecture-level cities, 95 counties (consisting of 19 counties, 21 county-level cities, and 55 districts), 718 towns and townships (consisting of 17 townships and 701 towns), and 519 sub-districts. Kunshan City, Taixing City and Shuyang County were under direct jurisdiction of the provincial government on a pilot basis.
