Resident Population
At the end of 2022, the province’s resident population was 85.15 million, an increase of 100,000 or 0.1% over the end of 2021.
Among the resident population, 43.2 million were men and 41.95 million women; 12.05 million people aged 0-14, 57.88 million people aged 15-64, and 15.22 million people aged 65 and above.
In comparison to 2021, the annual birth rate was 5.2%, down 0.4 thousandth; population mortality rate was 7.0%, up 0.3 thousandth; and natural population growth rate was -1.8%, down 0.7 thousandth.
Administrative Division
As of March 2023, Jiangsu was home to 13 prefecture-level cities, 95 counties (19 counties, 21 county-level cities, 55 districts), 718 towns and townships (17 townships and 701 towns), and 519 subdistricts. Kunshan, Taixing and Shuyang were pilot county-level cities under direct provincial administration.
