Recently, Alphaliner, an authoritative shipping consultancy, released its ranking of the world’s top 30 container ports for the first half of 2026. With a container throughput of 5.54 million TEUs, up 4.9 percent year on year, Port of Suzhou climbed to 17th place globally, becoming the province’s only port on the list and the only inland river port among the world’s top 20 container ports.
In the first seven months of this year, foreign trade container trunk services at Port of Suzhou handled more than 1 million TEUs, including over 80,000 TEUs on Southeast Asia routes.
The port has simultaneously expanded its sea freight services for oversized, bulk and general cargo to Southeast Asia to meet the market’s diversified demand for going global.
Backed by its strong industrial hinterland, Port of Suzhou offers the largest number, highest frequency and widest coverage of shipping routes among ports in Jiangsu and along the Yangtze River. Its foreign trade container trunk routes connect major overseas ports in Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, North Africa and South America, providing cost-effective and highly reliable channels for foreign trade enterprises in southern Jiangsu and across the province to go global.
