According to the summary meeting for the Jiangsu-Qinghai Silver Age Initiative in 2026, volunteer service teams under the initiative have delivered 156 on-site training sessions and themed lectures in Qinghai Province over the past month, through which more than 1,500 local medical workers, elderly caregivers and teachers at senior universities were trained, 156 training documents composed, 20 institutions assisted, and over 10,000 times of service provided to local people, with all tasks scheduled for this year successfully fulfilled.
This edition of the initiative was hosted by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Civil Affairs and Jiangsu Provincial Office on Ageing. This year featured a more multi-faceted service framework adopting a unified-and-decentralized targeted service model, which effectively aligned volunteers’ professional expertise with the actual needs of supported institutions. Organizers also pioneered an integrated online-offline coordination mechanism with a support channel, charting a new pathway for senior experts aged 70 and above to take part in the initiative.
Support was expanded into more diversified sectors. Three new programs were launched, namely, the Jiangsu-Qinghai Science Dream Seed Program, the Time Bank Mutual Elderly Care Promotion Program, and the Community-based Micro and Small Elderly Service Organization Improvement Program. Long-term cooperation was established between Xining Municipal Children’s Welfare Institute and Jiangsu Provincial Children’s Rehabilitation Research Center. Jiangsu Ageing Development Foundation donated 200,000 yuan to fund the construction of a community-based elderly care service network center in Huangzhong District. A number of experts signed advisory agreements with local supported institutions, delivering sustainable capacity-building assistance that ensures continued support even after volunteers return home.
