At around 12:00 p.m. on May 31, BYD’s ro-ro vessel Jinan carrying 7,273 new energy vehicles departed from Nantong Port. It will sail across the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea before eventually arriving in Gioia Tauro of Italy and Barcelona of Spain. This is Nantong’s first large-scale export of domestically produced automobiles. The shipment has set a new record for the largest volume of single-vessel, single-brand automotive export from China in one trip, marking the opening of a new channel for “Chinese cars going global” in the northern wing of the Yangtze River Delta.
