Jiangsu Railway Construction Work Conference was held in Nanjing on April 10. The meeting comprehensively summarized the achievements of railway construction across the province during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and systematically made plans for the key tasks for the 15th Five-Year Plan period and 2026 in an effort to take the development of a “Jiangsu on Rails” to a higher level.
Since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Jiangsu has delivered remarkable results in railway construction. Project construction has become more efficient, with the length of railways under construction exceeding 1,180 kilometers and total investment surpassing 380 billion yuan, ranking among the highest in the country. The railway network layout has been improved continuously. The total length of operating railways in the province has reached 4,731 kilometers, including 2,594 kilometers of high-speed railways. Jiangsu ranks first among all provinces and autonomous regions nationwide in terms of high-speed railway density by land area.
In 2026, the railway authorities across the province aim for even higher goals. They will systematically plan the overall layout of the railway network and accelerate the submission and approval of railway development plans for the 15th Five-Year Plan period; promote the early construction of major projects; lend full support to project construction to ensure fulfillment of the annual investment target for railway construction; properly address difficulties and advance the development of freight transportation system; improve quality and safety by strengthening management of high-risk projects and enhancing safety environments along railways; and strengthen industrial supervision and management by improving the local railway regulatory system.
In the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the railway authorities across the province aim to basically achieve railway modernization and accelerate the building of a strong railway province featuring “first-class facilities, technology, management and service”, which is “people-centered, reliable, safe, efficient, and at the forefront of the nation”.
