September 12 witnessed the opening of 2025 Singapore-Jiangsu Innovation Cooperation Matchmaking Seminar in Nanjing. The seminar, co-hosted by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Enterprise Singapore, aimed to deepen cooperation of innovation entities of the two sides for common development, particularly through two crucial fields—green city and life and health.
Over 100 representatives and experts from government bodies, universities, research institutes, and tech-oriented enterprises attended the seminar. The seminar highlighted flagship innovation projects between China and Singapore, with the collaborative project on organic industrial wastewater treatment and recycling co-sponsored by Nanjing Yangtze River Innovation Center for Ecological Civilization and Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) as a fine example. Wang Rong, Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore and President’s Chair Professor of NTU Singapore and Li Aimin, professor of Nanjing University and Chief Scientist at the Yangtze River Innovation Center elaborated on the progress and cooperation needs of the project.
According to a person in charge at Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, in recent years, in collaboration with innovation-powered countries such as Singapore and Norway, Jiangsu has set up co-funding mechanisms for industrial R&D, successfully developing a number of platforms for international innovation cooperation, including NUS (Suzhou) Research Institute, A*STAR Partners’ Center, Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research.
Since 2021, two MOUs on industrial innovation partnership has been signed between the Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Enterprise Singapore. Under this framework, the two sides jointed sponsored over 20 business-led R&D projects centered on the areas of green and low-carbon development, biomedicine, and advanced manufacturing. Now the fourth round of application is going on. The two sides agreed to deepen and expand innovation cooperation at all levels, encourage enterprises, universities, and institutes to find and create new cooperation channels and mechanisms, and launch new exemplary projects. These will contribute to new progress in sci-tech cooperation, which will further propel innovation-driven industrial development for both Jiangsu and Singapore.
