In the first half of the year, Jiangsu Province recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) of about 6.69 trillion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.7%.
In a breakdown, the total added value of the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery sectors rose by 4.7% year-on-year, while industrial enterprises above designated size saw a 7.4% increase. The added value of the tertiary sector grew by 5.9%.
Notably, from January to May, operating income in the sports services, cultural and arts, and entertainment sectors rose by 10.2%, 12.8%, and 13.8% respectively.
Retail sales of consumer goods across the province grew by 5.0% year-on-year, including a 4.8% rise in urban areas and 6.8% in rural areas. Online retail sales increased by 7.9% to 636.24 billion yuan.
High-tech industries contributed to 51.8% of the total output of industrial enterprises above designated size, up 0.4 percentage point from the first quarter. From January to May, operating income from internet and related services, as well as software and information technology services, grew by 16.8% and 14.3%, respectively.
