According to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, 16 enterprises from Jiangsu were included in the 2024 ranking of “China’s Top 100 Pharmaceutical Industrial Enterprises by Revenue”, up by one from the previous year. This marks the second consecutive year Jiangsu has topped the nation in the number of listed enterprises, with Beijing, Zhejiang, Shandong, Guangdong and Shanghai ranked second to sixth respectively.

Regarding the regional distribution of selected enterprises from Jiangsu, Lianyungang ranks first with four companies on the list, followed by Taizhou and Suzhou with three each, Nanjing with two, and Wuxi, Xuzhou, Nantong, and Zhenjiang with one each. In terms of rankings, a total of nine Jiangsu-based companies ranked among the top 50. Hengrui Pharmaceuticals and Chiatai Tianqing Pharmaceuticals secured spots in the top 10, placing 8th and 9th respectively. Innovent Biologics and Hansoh Pharmaceutical rose by 8 and 5 places compared to last year. Haleon (Suzhou) Pharmaceutical entered the rankings for the first time at 71st. In the sub-ranking of the “2024 Top 10 Industrial Enterprises by R&D Intensity”, five companies from Jiangsu were listed, the highest number nationwide. Innovent Biologics ranked first, followed by Hengrui Pharmaceuticals, Simcere Pharmaceutical, Hansoh Pharmaceutical, and Chiatai Tianqing Pharmaceuticals in 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 9th place respectively.

After years of development, Jiangsu’s biopharmaceutical industry has established a solid foundation and continues to lead the nation in scale. According to an official from the provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the next step is to follow the approach of “strengthening platforms, empowering through mechanisms, centering on enterprises, and fostering a favorable ecosystem.” Efforts will be intensified to improve the policy support system, deliver more precise and tailored services, and accelerate the creation of a biopharmaceutical industry cluster with global competitiveness.
