ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a professional higher education evaluation agency, recently released the 2025 Best Chinese Majors Ranking, which covers 836 majors across 93 disciplines in 12 academic categories. A total of 64 majors from 19 universities in Jiangsu Province ranked first nationwide.
This year, 2,575 majors from 72 universities in Jiangsu were included in the ranking, the highest number among all provinces, autonomous regions, and province-level cities in China. Among them, 195 majors were rated A+, 486 rated A, 1,079 rated B+, and 815 rated B. In terms of the number of top-rated (A+) majors, Jiangsu ranked third among all province-level regions in the country.
Yangzhou University had the highest number of listed majors in Jiangsu Province, with 104 majors, including Animal and Plant Quarantine (A+). Soochow University followed closely with 103 majors, featuring Radiation Medicine (A+) and Metallic Materials Engineering (A+). Other universities in the province with more than 80 listed majors included Jiangsu University (89), Nanjing Tech University (87), Nanjing University (86), Nanjing Normal University (85), and Nantong University (81). Overall, Jiangsu universities achieved outstanding results in this year’s rankings.
A total of 26 universities in Jiangsu offered top-rated (A+) majors. Nanjing University led the way with 36 A+ majors, ranking among the top nationwide. It was followed by Southeast University (27 A+ majors), Jiangnan University (13), Nanjing Agricultural University (12), China Pharmaceutical University (12), and Nanjing Normal University (10), all demonstrating significant strength in academic capabilities.
Universities in Jiangsu also topped the national rankings in multiple majors: 64 majors from 19 universities in Jiangsu ranked No.1 nationally, placing Jiangsu third among all provinces (autonomous regions, and province-level cities) for the number of champion majors. Three universities had five or more first-place majors: Southeast University had 10, including Urban Underground Space Engineering, Road, Bridge and River-Crossing Engineering, and Electronic Science and Technology. China Pharmaceutical University had nine, including Marine Pharmacy, Biopharmaceuticals, and Pharmaceutical Affairs Management. Jiangnan University had five, including Packaging Engineering, Public Art, and Brewing Engineering.
