In early winter, the red maple leaves on Qixia Mountain in Nanjing are at their most vibrant.
Located in the city's northeastern suburbs, the Qixia Mountain Scenic Area borders the Yangtze River to the north and spans 742 hectares. At the foot of the mountain sits Qixia Temple, which has a history of more than 1,500 years.
The area is home to over 4,000 ancient maple trees more than 200 years old, and some 150,000 red-leaf trees in total. The spectacular seasonal foliage is a major draw to visitors.
