On June 30, the six 270,000-cubic-meter liquid natural gas (LNG) storage tanks of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Yancheng Green Energy Port project were completed in Yancheng, dubbed as an LNG tank cluster with the highest single-tank capacity in the world independently designed and built by China. This achievement marks the establishment of China’s largest LNG reserve base. It is pivotal in bolstering energy security along the Yangtze River Economic Belt and facilitating green, high-quality development.

The CNOOC Yancheng Green Energy Port project is located in the Binhai Port Industrial Park of Yancheng City. The project includes four 220,000-cubic-meter and six 270,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks, with a total capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters. Once fully operational, the annual LNG processing capacity will reach 6 million tons, equivalent to 8.5 billion cubic meters of gaseous natural gas, sufficient to meet the province’s civil gas consumption needs for 28 months. This project is a crucial component of the national natural gas production, supply, storage, and distribution system, as well as the connectivity plan. It will link with major national pipelines such as the West-East Gas Transmission Line and the China-Russia East Line, and will also offer external delivery services via tanker trucks. This infrastructure will ensure a continuous supply of natural gas resources to provinces including Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, and Shandong.
