According to statistics from Nanjing Customs, in the first seven months of this year, Jiangsu’s imports and exports with the other member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) reached RMB 230.41 billion, up 15.9 percent year on year.

The SCO (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park is an important platform for SCO member states to reach global markets. Leveraging Lianyungang’s edge as a national logistics hub and its road-rail-river-sea multimodal transport network, the park is accelerating key infrastructure projects such as a belt conveyor corridor and a multimodal transport center for bulk commodities.

At present, cargo handled by the park spans 14 categories, including auto parts, photovoltaic modules, machinery and equipment, daily necessities and chemical raw materials.

In the first seven months of this year, the park handled a total of 51.66 million tonnes of cargo, up 11.93 percent year on year, and 428,300 TEUs of containers, up 6.13 percent, providing robust logistics support for SCO economic and trade cooperation and for the high-quality development of Belt and Road cooperation.

Recently, a consignment of polyester chips worth RMB 490,000 departed smoothly from Wuxi West Station on a “China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan” rail-road multimodal freight train.

Compared with conventional all-road or all-rail transport, this new rail-road combined mode cuts freight costs by 10 percent against all-rail transport and by 33 percent against all-road transport, while shortening transit time from around 25 days to around 15 days.

The corridor’s convenience and stability have generated a strong clustering effect. Wuxi Customs has facilitated the swift clearance of 11,193 tonnes of cargo under this mode, covering the core manufacturing belt of the Yangtze River Delta, including Wuxi and Changzhou, and further improving Jiangsu’s multimodal logistics network serving SCO member states.

As the logistics corridor operates efficiently, economic and trade exchanges have become more frequent. In the first seven months of this year, the company’s exports to the other SCO member states reached about RMB 30 million, up more than 20 percent year on year.
