Haimen-Taicang Yangtze River Tunnel STM Passes Halfway Mark

On March 22, the “Jianghai” shield tunneling machine (STM), operated by China Railway 14th Bureau, had advanced 4,658 meters in the construction of the Haimen-Taicang Yangtze River Tunnel, the world’s longest underwater highway tunnel, surpassing the halfway point of its total excavation task. The tunnel is located in the Yangtze River estuary in Jiangsu Province, running from Haimen District of Nantong in the north to Taicang in Suzhou in the south. The project has a total length of 39.07 kilometers, including an 11.185-kilometer river-crossing section and a 9,315-meter shield tunneling section.
