According to Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Statistics, Jiangsu’s regional GDP in 2024 reached RMB 13.7008 trillion, up by 5.8% over the same period of the previous year. Specifically, five of the 13 prefecture-level cities exceeded RMB 1 trillion in their GDP, and the growth rates of eight cities were higher than the provincial growth rate of 5.8%. The economic operation of the province is generally stable and progressive.

From the perspective of economic aggregate, the ranking of cities with the highest GDP in Jiangsu has not changed much. Suzhou ranked first with a total economic output of RMB 2,672.698 billion, and it is also the only city in Jiangsu with a GDP exceeding the RMB 2 trillion mark, and its total economic output continued to be among the top of prefecture-level cities in China.

Nanjing and Wuxi ranked second and third with a GDP of over RMB 1.85 trillion and RMB 1.62 trillion respectively. In terms of absolute value, the economic aggregates of Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuxi all exceeded RMB 1.5 trillion, showcasing relatively high levels of economic strength. In addition, the GDP of Nantong and Changzhou also maintained good performance from last year, and both exceeded RMB 1 trillion.

From the perspective of growth rate, the growth rates of eight cities were higher than the average 5.8% in the province. Huai’an took the lead in Jiangsu with a growth rate of 7.1%, followed by Suqian and Xuzhou with a growth rate of 6.9% and 6.4% respectively.

Overall, Jiangsu’s economy is stable and progressing steadily, showing solid improvements in high-quality development, and marking firm steps towards a modern new Jiangsu that is prosperous, beautiful and culturally advanced. At the same time, we should also observe that the adverse effects brought by the current external environmental shifts have deepened, and the economic operation still faces many obstacles and challenges. “The next step is to promote high-quality development, further deepen reforms, intensify efforts to implement unconventional counter-cyclical adjustment policies, expand effective demand across the board, focus on stabilizing expectations, stimulate vitality, and continue to consolidate and enhance the economic recovery.” Said the relevant person in charge of the Provincial Bureau of Statistics.
