The year 2024 saw people’s ever-increasing enthusiasm towards museums in Jiangsu as there were always long waiting lines of visitors and popular creative cultural products were often sold out in the blink of an eye once they were put on shelves. According to Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, in 2024, there were a total of 140 million visits to museums in Jiangsu, again, the largest number in China.
In the recently released ranking of the Top 100 Popular Museums (4th quarter of 2024), one can spot many names from Jiangsu, including Nanjing Museum, Suzhou Museum, Yangzhou Grand Canal Museum, Yancheng Museum, Xuzhou Museum, and Nantong Museum. In fact, names of Jiangsu museums can be found in every quarterly list of the Top 100 Popular Museums in 2024. On May 18, 2024, the International Museum Day last year, the list of the fifth group of newly accredited national first-grade museums was announced. Another thirteen Jiangsu museums joined the group, including Nanjing Bao’en Temple Museum (the Porcelain Tower), Nanjing City Wall Museum, Yixing Museum, Jiangyin Museum, Memorial Hall of Huaihai Campaign, Suzhou Silk Museum, making the total number 26 in Jiangsu, second largest in China. In addition to that, Jiangsu also houses 40 national second-grade museums and 33 third-grade museums, among the top in national ranking.
Now there are altogether 1.2 million pieces (sets) of collections in Jiangsu museums. Leveraging such rich resources, museums all over Jiangsu have been actively engaged in exchange and cooperation with their counterparts in other provinces, and have hosted many boutique exhibitions, which were widely applauded by visitors.
