To accelerate the high-quality development of the water sports industry and foster new business forms, models, and scenarios of water-related consumption, ten provincial departments, including Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission and Jiangsu Administration of Sports, have jointly issued the Guiding Principles on Accelerating the Development of Leisure Consumption of Water Sports in recent days.

Based on the resources and current strength of Jiangsu’s water sports industry, and on top of this government-guided, market-oriented industry that involves extensive social participation and vigorous industrial integration and institutional innovation to fuel consumption, the Guiding Principles introduced 13 policy measures to remove institutional obstacles of leisure consumption of water sports to cultivate and strengthen market entities, provide more venues, facilities, products and services for water sports and leisure activities, and promote the integrated development of leisure consumption of water sports in various scenarios and business forms.

In the days to come, Jiangsu will improve accessibility to leisure consumption of water sports by improving the planning, infrastructure, facilities and services, and fostering a stronger appeal of distinctive water sports through hosting competitions. Consumption scenarios will be better integrated to unleash the market potential, and the industrial chain will be improved with greater input from society to nurture a market boom for leisure consumption of water sports. A favorable environment for the development of water sports-related industries will be created by closer inter-departmental collaboration, better mechanisms and systems, stronger policy support, and greater sense of responsibility on safety.
