Under the theme of “deepening cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation and promoting integrated agricultural development”, over 300 guests-of-honor and representatives from government, business and academia held in-depth discussions on enhancing the integrated development of modern agriculture across the Taiwan Straits in a bid to implement the Several Measures to Support Compatriots in Taiwan and Taiwan Enterprises to Seek Development in Agriculture and Forestry on Chinese Mainland (“22 Measures”).

Zhang Ping said that it is of great relevance that entrepreneurs and experts of agricultural economy from both sides of the Straits are able to gather together to meet with leaders of the competent authorities of the State Council and try to work out ways to improve the efficiency of cross-Straits modern agriculture cooperation. It is imperative for us to shoulder the great responsibility together of depicting new prospect for the integrated development across the Straits, grasp this opportunity to create a paradigm for cross-Straits agricultural cooperation, and work in partnership as one to build a new hub for agricultural transformation and upgrading.

Qiu Zhengxiong said in his video speech that he wishes the “22 Measures” will help strengthen the cross-Straits agricultural cooperation. The forum, as he put it, would not only offer an opportunity for agricultural businesses on both sides to share experience on industrial growth, but further the sustainable agricultural cooperation as well to achieve the common aspirations across the Straits.

Pei Jinjia said that both sides of the Straits have been witnessing growing and higher-level exchanges in the agricultural sector in the recent years. At the moment, compatriots in Taiwan and Taiwan businesses are facing great opportunity to pursue development in agriculture and forestry with preferential policies and a vast market. Better and faster development can be achieved, as long as we are confident and well-oriented.

Zhang Tianyou noted that China has prioritized its rural revitalization effort in all respects. Compatriots in Taiwan are advised to leverage their agricultural strength to take part in the historical process of rural revitalization on the mainland, so as to share the business opportunity and dividend of that great initiative.

Hui Jianlin said that Jiangsu always regards Taiwan people as family. As the host for this forum, Jiangsu will continue to render support to compatriots in Taiwan and Taiwan businesses to invest in Jiangsu, work to enhance exchanges and cooperation in agriculture, economic and trade, science and technology, culture and other sectors for greater practical results between Jiangsu and Taiwan, create a promising future for Jiangsu—Taiwan integrated development, and make due contributions to improving the welfare for people across the Straits and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

During the forum, Huai’an City released plans and policies for the Pilot Area of Cross-Straits Modern Agriculture Cooperation.
