Jiangsu Delegation Attending China--Africa Economic and Trade Expo

The first China--Africa Economic and Trade Expo(CAETE)kicked off in Changsha, Hunan on 27 June. Jiangsu delegation took part in the exhibition and its related events with the presence of Vice Governor Guo Yuanqiang who also made a fact-finding visit to Jiangsu exhibition area.

CAETE is the first implementation of the “eight major actions” to enhance China—Africa cooperation, one of the practical moves in building a more united China—Africa community with shared future. This expo prioritizes trade, agriculture, investment and financing, cooperative parks and infrastructure, and sets up five major exhibition zones, namely, China—Africa economic and trade achievements zone, zone for African countries, study cases and plans zone, zone for Chinese provinces and municipalities, as well as zone for enterprises. 53 African countries and 28 Chinese provinces and municipalities have independent exhibition area of their own. At Jiangsu exhibition area, great achievements of Jiangsu’s economic and trade cooperation with African countries, especially those attained since the Reform and Opening up initiative and after the 18th CPC National Congress, were highlighted. Over 200 representatives from 50 companies and government agencies in the 13 municipalities of Jiangsu attended the expo, looking for new opportunities to deepen the cooperation with African countries.

Stats of Jiangsu Department of Commerce show that Africa has become an important emerging market for Jiangsu’s outbound trade activities. Jiangsu has established trade partnerships with 61 countries and regions in Africa. From January to May, foreign trade volume between Jiangsu and Africa has stood at USD 5.557 billion; 37 African companies have made direct investment to Jiangsu; contractual foreign capital has registered RMB 667 million; Jiangsu has invested in 20 projects in Africa with contractual investment amount of USD 220 million. Jiangsu has invested in two industrial parks, and participated in the construction of one industrial park and one free trade zone in Africa.
