Jiangsu Sports Consumption Statistics Released

On November 21, Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Sports released the Statistics of Urban and Rural Residents’ Sports Consumption in 2018. The statistics show that the total sports consumption of urban and rural residents in Jiangsu reached RMB 191.8 billion, a year-on-year growth of 17.8%.

In 2018, the provincial per capita sports spending was RMB 2,382, of which sports goods ranked first with per capita RMB 602.51, and the second to fourth places were sports training, sports lottery fees and club membership fees. The total spending on fitness and sports events accounted for 70.6%.

According to the statistics, per capita sports spending of South Jiangsu is more than those of Central and North Jiangsu; the urban is higher than the rural. Sports spending grows with the improvement of educational level and incomes. The sports spending of professional and technical personnel in urban areas is the highest.

In terms of engagement, the sports ranking in the top five are hiking, road running and marathon, badminton, chess and cards as well as rope jumping. In terms of the number of off-site audience (watching media products including live broadcasting, video recording and highlights), the sports ranking in the top five are NBA, World Cup and European and American Football Leagues, CBA, BWF World Championships and FIVB World Grand Prix. In terms of the number of onsite audiences, the sports ranking in the top five are marathon and other running events, badminton, CSL and AFC Champions League, CBA and Tennis.

The statistics also show that 75.9% of urban and rural residents are satisfied with their sports consumption, increasing by 4.7 percentage points from 2017.
